First half

Guard Rickey Bradley produced eight points and three rebounds as the VMI Keydets played a physical style, drew fouls and forged a 35-31 lead at halftime. The Keydets hit 12 of 17 at the line against only two of four for the Roadrunners in the first half.

Brothers TJ Johnson and Trap Johnson, from Belton, each scored seven points apiece for the Keydets, who led most of the way by one or two possessions.

KJ Tenner paced UTSA with eight points. The 6-foot guard from Memphis, a transfer from Murray State (Ky.), hit three of six from the field and one of two from 3-point distance.

Playing five days after a 95-74 season-opening loss at San Jose State, the Roadrunners showed some improvement defensively, holding the Keydets to 38 percent shooting.

They also were better on the boards, but not quite good enough, as the visitors out-rebounded them, 22-16.
